We caught the ferry on a beautiful day from Perth to atmospheric Freemantle.
Accommodation was in a apartment building on the spit by the harbour and we spent our time browsing through the town with its colonial architecture, the lively harbour and enjoying the bars and live music. It was the end of the holiday for the locals and the whole place was buzzing. We saw some good jazz too, ironically a Brit being the lead saxophonist. We also did a beer tasting at the Little Creatures brewery, cans now available in Waitrose in Berko!

We also visited the Freemantle prison, our first experience of the penal colony history.

| Rather gruesome "voodoo " dolls made by the prisoners of the guards. |
On our final day we caught the ferry to beautiful Rottnest Island for snorkelling and to see their quokkas, the very cute little brown bundles of fur made much of on social media. Not bad snorkelling either.
We then returned to the mainland to pick up the first of our hire cars for our drive to Margaret river.
