Tasmania ; Back on the road. Cradle Mountain

We picked up yet another hire car, southwest for  the attractive two and a half drive to Cradle Mountain. We stopped along the way in Sheffield (!),a small town famous for its murals. A good lunch and shopping in a farm shop where we found some" fresh " peanut butter, delicious.

The road climbed up into the mountains where we booked into our rustic little cabin in the bush.

Cradle Mountain national park would normally have been busy at this time of year but the combination of the bush fires and the emerging Coronavirus in Wuhan was keeping numbers down.
Only the Park buses are allowed in and we caught it in to Dove Lake, just amazing views.

Today was our intended 7/8 hour hike up to the Cradle Summit ; but a weather front was coming in where we had been warned that the final boulder scramble could be dangerous in the wet...and we didn't want to just dash up and down so we took our time...and actually the little final bit to the top looked the worst bit of the trail.

View from our lunch stop at Marion's Point

Last of the chain ladders ( nothing as scary as SA )

We walked as far as the hut..

The walk back..along the " Horse Track "alternative route.

And then at the end of the day, our first of many wombats
