To Tasmania

An easy 3 hour drive winding through the hills to Melbourne, where we ditched the hire car and then the hour's flight to Launceston to the Topiary Haven Air B&B  set in amazing gardens overlooking the city. Probably the best fitted out property we have ever stayed in.

Our first full day in Tassie was spent on the Tamar Valley Wine Tour.We drove out in very "English " rolling countryside to our first stop at the Pipers Brook vineyard, pretty classy, then Jansze, not so well known in the UK but very popular for sparkling wine in Oz. The Sinapius boutique winery followed where the owner did the tasting and we bought some of his excellent pinot. Finally to the Delamere, where again the owners were involved and you really learnt something.

We finished off the day with an evening walk to the Cataract Gorge, the natural feature the town is famous for, and which was supposed to be illuminated but sadly no lights!

In the morning, a beautiful day, we returned back to the Gorge, quite busy with families and kids enjoying the sunshine. After a stiff walk up to the Eagles Eyrie and a trip on the cable car we picnicked in a glade before walking down the gorge into the town, a fair walk, great scenery, then along the estuary, very invigorating on what had become a very blustery day.

Converted harbour buildings now for leisure use including the Stillwater Restaurants, where we had a great meal overlooking the water.

We walked back through the town where Nic bought a new holiday ring.

After dinner and a very good day, we returned to watching the Australian Open, which entertained us on many evenings.
