Our hire car was giving us some grief with some unpleasant grinding noises from the a front brake and the weather was grey. Our accommodation in the city was the "Woolsack ", a converted warehouse near the harbour, an attractive building but our room was pokey. We visited the famous "Salamanca " market which was pleasantly bohemian and laid back plus we tried one of the Scallop Pies, very popular locally.
We walked around the town, which is mainly period buildings around the harbour and had a great fish meal at the "Blue Eye " restaurant where we spent the evening chatting to a very friendly couple, a CPS anti corruption officer and his information officer wife.
We had a three hour walking tour the next morning, starting in the Salamanca area and then on to Battery Point. Fascinating stories and architecture.
We had spotted that we would be in Hobart for when the Annual Regatta would be on and the table of events looked impressive.Maybe because of the bush fires or whatever the reality was rather different and apart from some small scale sailing events little was on ; However, their was a unexpectedly entertaining Wood Chopping competition taken very seriously by the locals.
